All of us in public safety and public health remain hard at work to minimize the pandemic’s affect on Kane County and elsewhere is as much as possible. Given that the coronavirus remains a significant public health threat, the public will have limited access to Kane County court facilities for the foreseeable future. This is done with the public’s health and safety in mind. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office still strives to assure justice and the safety of the public, to meet the needs and demands of the public and to do these things in a way that is safe for the public and all who work in the court system. Visitors to all Kane County court facilities must wear a face covering at all times and follow recommended social distancing guidelines. Each visitor will be asked a series of questions and have their temperature taken before entering the building. Only defendants are permitted inside the buildings, and court officials hope to conduct as many hearings, including bench trials, as possible by remote means. The number of people allowed in each courtroom and inside each court facility is restricted. Further details are posted on the 16th judicial circuit’s website, and updates will be posted on the 16th circuits coronavirus Facebook page. Court employees, including the employees of court agents, such as our office and the public defender’s office, are asked to work from home when possible. When in the office, employees must wear a face covering in public areas. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office remains committed to providing all mandated services to meet the public’s needs. Victim safety remains a high priority, however, so victim advocates are always available during business hours. For additional victim assistance, contact Prairie State Legal Services, Mutual Ground of Aurora or Community Crisis Center of Elgin. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together to navigate this pandemic. ​​ ​ Reporting Child Abuse​​ If you have a reasonable belief that someone is physically or sexually abusing a child, or neglecting a child, you should report it to Illinois DCFS. People who work with children, including teachers, coaches, school officials, daycare providers and healthcare providers, are required by law to make a report. However, anyone who suspects child abuse or neglect can make a report. Just call 1-800-25-ABUSE (1-800-252-2873.)
